The Guide to Downsizing

Are you thinking of downsizing? You’ve got plenty of company. According to the most recent data from the National Association of Realtors, 40 percent of homebuyers 53 years and older were looking to downsize in 2018, and that trend is expected to go up over the next decade as the bulk of the baby boomers move into their 60s, 70s, and 80s.

It’s not just older homeowners who are looking to move into smaller homes. Data shows almost 10 percent of homeowners 51 years of age and younger cited a desire to downsize as the reason for their moves. All in all, more people are beginning to realize they don’t need as much home as they once thought they did — a movement more accurately termed “rightsizing,” or finding the home that has just the right amount of space you need for your lifestyle.
